The second Sears Retail store to open in Philadelphia, PA was at Sixty-third and Market Street in 1927 under store number 1014. There were 2 signs installed on the west corner and 2 more on the south corner of the building. They remained in place until sometime during W.W.II. Two were stolen and supposed to have been melted down for their brass content. The other two were removed from the building and stored in the basement of the store. Over the years, they were covered over with boxes or records, display items, shelving, racks etc. In 1988 during clean up time, everything in the west basement was to be thrown out when the two signs were found. The store manager claimed one, and my father, employed by Sears at the time, claimed the other. The store manager had his made into a coffee table. My father's is intact, in perfect condition and now available. As mentioned before, the sign measures 19.5 inches wide by 42 inches long. It is made of solid brass and weights 80.5 pounds.

The asking price at this time is $5,000 and the buyer would need to pay for the shipping. If needed, an appointment can be arranged to see the actual sign.
