Today I reclaimed a thigh-high iron Florin stove, with name plates and moving parts. It looks complete. A crack is in the side of the top flue/flat iron chamber. I guess an age of 50 years at least. I wish to hold and enjoy it.My questions: How does one operate it? How does one know if the configuration is complete? Should one refinish it or repair it? I can provide digital pictures if You are interested.

If you all give me a few days to gather the info, I will post it here or you can e-mail me about the Florin Stoves. I grew up 2 blocks from the Foundry. It is no longer in business from almost 100 years ago. Hold onto your stoves, they are collectors items. I have recently purchased a 212 myself and I am bidding on a 161. Can any of you tell me if your stoves have 3 legs or 4 legs ?If you email me, please put Florin in the subject line so I know it is not Spam. PaRoMale@aol.com

I just purchased a #213 pot belly Florin stove. It is complete, but was very dirty and unused for many years. I am going to restore it. It has 3 legs and is mainly a coal stove, but can be used for wood.

As far as the 212 stove, there are 3 different models These were called EGG Stoves, had 3 legs and weigh 100 lb. The 212 is 12 inches at the center, the 213 is 13 inches and the 210 is 10 inches. I believe they were called that because of their shape. They were able to burn coal or wood in these stoves. During this time, most streets were dirt. During rainy seasons, the streets were almost impossible to drive on so most people would take their ashes and scatter them in the mud to create traction. The same for Winter driving, ashes give great traction on ice, if you can, keep a small bucket of ashes in your trunk in case you ever get stuck on ice, you wont find anything better. Another nice thing about ashes, it is a great preservative, there are many dump areas in town where people buried household items along with the ashes and these items are in near perfect condition. I hope this information helps. Model 116 was called a Cannon stove, 200 lbs in weightand had 4 legs. These were used for a variety of purposes. I believe the Florin Foundry was in business from around 1915 to 1927 when another company bought them out and started making the cook stoves and many other models. That company which was called the Middletown Stove Works was then bought out by Wilton Brass and today is known as Wilton Armetale. Armetale is a mixture of 4 different metals, I believe 2 of them are nickel and aluminum.
