| Steven Greenbergs third novel Flocking Published Flocking—Press ReleaseFlocking, the third novel by Steven M. Greenberg, was released on Nov. 30, 2011. The paperback edition, available on Amazon.com, comes in at a hefty 464 pages. It will be forthcoming as an Amazon Kindle e-book to complement the print version, with planned release date sometime before year’s end. Flocking, like Dr. Greenberg’s other previous novels, Adam’s Will and Incantation, fits roughly in the category of literary fiction, with elements of adventure, romance, and a bit of speculative science thrown into the mix. It tells the story of Jeremy Lipton, celebrated professor and researcher on the staff of Cornell University, who, in investigating flocking behavior in birds, comes upon a chemical that may permit the animals to communicate by magnetic impulse their crude intentions to turn and swerve and stop in flight. Since trace amounts of the chemical are present in the human brain as well, the substance may, theoretically, permit such thought transfer in humankind the way it facilitates these abilities in birds. If it does, and Jeremy tests it on himself, what will he learn about the individuals around him—his closest friends, his gorgeous wife, a lovely former student of his who has returned to Cornell to teach? Will the thoughts of others be enlightening? Disillusioning? Horrifying? One thing for certain: they will be largely for mature audiences only—as is this insightful, disturbing, and thought-provoking book. This, Dr. Greenberg’s third novel, was three years in development, and bears all the characteristics of his previous two books: Careful character development, an intricate and unpredictable plot, and meticulous and polished language. The manuscript, prior to publication, was a semi-finalist in this year’s Pirate’s Alley Faulkner Society competition, and the published novel has been entered for a number of other awards. Dr. Greenberg is a long-time resident of Brookville. He spends winters mostly writing and summers largely collecting and restoring antique Cadillacs in his Brookville garage. |
