Origins of name of every province/major city?
jem from Philly -
I have been doing a bit of research and collecting the meanings behind every name of each province of Philippines. So far I have this:The origin of the word Zamboanga came from the early Malays who came to settle at the tip of Zamboanga peninsula. These Malays discovered the place to be profusely blooming with flowers and called it “Jambangan” meaning “land or pot of flowers.” Which is why Zamboanga is known as the city of flowers. Does anybody know of any others to pitch in? Trackbacks

If you ask some of the Filipinos, you may hear that the word Palawan has a meaning of Land of Beautiful Harbors. I think it was adapted from a chinese word Palaoyu. That is the only one I have heard about. Plus that could just be rumor?

Pangasinan province got its name from the word "asin." Roughly "pangasinan" means place where salt is made.
