When we went to Hawaii, we hopped islands by airplane. I have heard since the islands are closer together to just take a boat. I am not too familiar with this in the Philippines, does anyone know more about this?

For many of the 7, 000+ islands you can go by Air or Boat... some though are only reachable by boat. A few have bridges I believe.

I believe that it is possible to boat from one island to another. Not all though, some will have to be done by flying. I think though that you would find more than enough islands to hop to and from via sailing! Sounds like tons of fun!

Thanks for the quick replies guys. I think that it is really cheap to go by boat between the islands. I would rather do that then fly. But, then I start thinking, how safe are the boats? I have not seen anything about the bridges, but that is a good idea.

I did a little research and on average to take a plane from island to island it is about 2500 pesos. I am not good at converting anything so if someone knows the conversions that would be great if you could post it. If you go by boat, that should be fine. Some have really nice ferryboats you can ride. That to me would be a great experience.

I would imagine travelling by boat would be generally safe. Really bad things can happen with any mode of travel though. But i generally think sailing would be fine. You should not worry too much about it. I also imagine sailing would be much cheaper than flying?

2500 pesos is about 50 bucks.

It really depends on where in the philippines you want to go Island hopping, and what you meant by Island hopping. There are places that you can do Isalnd hopping for a DAY or two(hundred islands, bohol and Palawan). Normally you can rent a boat for a day at around 50-150 bucks. But if you what you meant was go from 1 place (let say, Boracay-nice beach and sand then go to another one like Palawan) then that has to be done using plane. And the normal airfare would cost around 100-200 bucks depending on when you'll book the ticket:)
