hi folks, we've just put a deposit on an apartment in Cabanas, the Benamour golf club is just up the road and you should speak to a guy called Eddie McGuckan (town and Country) on the seafront in Cabanas, i think he does good deals on green fees and he can probably tell you if theres a golf society in the area.

We have an apartment in Cabanas which we visit every few months, and were wondering if everyone else was paying for a fiscal representative to pay their annual council tax, or do they go to the town hall in Tavira and pay it thenselves? Our solicitor is charging almost 300 euros to pay it for us, telling us that it was a law that said a representative must pay it. It was in the local paper that the EU has complained about the unfair nature of this ruling and they gave the portuguese government 2 months to reply, as it is not legal to rule that all property owners of holiday homes should be liable to pay for this service, when they can go and pay their bills themselves.Does anyone know what has happened?

My brother has bought a flat in Tavira and is moving there permanently in a few days (22 June 09). As he doesn't have a computer over there yet, I'm doing a bit of research for him and would appreciate hearing from any expat Tavira residents whom he and his partner might get in touch with as they won't know anyone there at first and will feel rather isolated. He is retired but very active and she works in London at present but will be helping him set up the new home for 10 days. He can manage fairly well in Portuguese (he also speaks French and Italian) but both of them will be taking lessons once settled down. I'd appreciate hearing from anyone living in Tavira whom my brother (Chris) could contact to have a drink or a coffee with and hear about what life is like there in general. Thanks.
