Hi Reference living costs in Portugal. We have started a company that builds homes in central Portugal. We estimate that you can live modestly in Portugal for just £8.00 per day. This excludes you having a mortgage.

Hello, we have lived in Central Portugal for seven months. We are living off interest from savings and a small early retirement pension. I draw out about 60 euros a week for local grocery shopping, Our gas bottle has cost us 20 euros every 3 months. Computer is just over 18 euros a month. Electric is the dearest thing. We have just done a standing order for 40 euros a month. This could go up if we get our downstairs flat ready to let and buy the storage heaters we want. (The winters are cold ) The phone tends to be about 45 euros a month. (very modest use ) There is no TV licence, a few cents are added to the electric bill. Petrol is similar cost to UK. Car tax and insurance are cheap. You can have a 3 course plate of the day in a local restaurant for 5 euros at lunchtime in the week. Houses in Central Portugal are cheaper than UK and Algarve. It is prettier here and less busy and not commercialised.

HiI'm thinking of buying a property in the Algarve, the property in question has a swimming pool and would need the attendance of gardeners. The property will be mortgage free but I will have utility bills and a car to run. Would £1800 pm be enough to have a reasonable lifestyle that of course would involve the odd game of golf and meals out once in a while. • Page 1 (Original Post) •
