| Growing up in PR I moved to PR in 1968 at the age of 8 and spent 10 years growing up there. Even though things have changed over the years, generally they remain the same. Americans can work, hold jobs, buy property, etc. I lived in Fajardo (east point) and went to school in Humacao at a Roman Catholic High School. I highly recommend the Colegio San Antonio Abad high School. They are run by the Benedictine Monks (St. Johns, Minnesota is their home base). When I was there it was the 3rd best school on the island. The people are mostly friendly. Don't try to be different, just be laid back and go with the flow. When they say they will take care of something "tomorrow" they mean a day "which will come eventually". If you leave something out in your yard it might be missing for a few days, but it used to appear later. They figure if you aren't using it they will use it for a while and get it back to you later. I'm not sure whether that still applies. |
