I just purchased a painting, and believe that the artist is from Rhode Island. Possibly named David Pelbam. Does anyone know of him?

David Pelbam was born in 1932. He was a local artist in Rhode Island. He did his works between 1950 and 1960 only. He is most famous for painting portraits of dockworkers, ship captains, and rabbis. His paintings have sold for as low as $65.00 to a smart bidder at a small auction house to $5, 000 on Ebay!

HiI have a painting that I think is from David Pelbam. I won it at a silent auction. Everything I have heard and read says that it is his. It is an older man with a greyish/white beard dressed in a white sea uniform and captains hat. It is 10 x 8 and it is signed in the lower left corner Pelbam with a swirl from the m back to the p. I am a bit confused because it is not on canvas like others I have read about rather on a piece of wood (kind of like plywood). I think/hope it is authentic. I am curious as to the value tho I would never sell it. It is amazing and I truely love looking at it especially the eyes of this man. I would love to talk to anyone who has a similar painting or who knows anything more about this gifted artist.

I beleive I have a large Pelbam. Although it is not of a old man or captain. It is a picture of a famous outside scene in Paris and is an oil. Did he paint these types of scenes? It is approximately 16 by 20 inches big. Could you give me some input of what kind of value it may bring. Thanks so much in advance for your help, D. Grube

In response to D. Grube, I also have the same painting on canvas!! Until last night I did not notice that artist is the same one that is did the portrait I have of what appears to be a 'Gorton' type fisherman with a hat. Someone told me the building looks like Notre Dame. I am now intrigued since I personally did not purchase either painting. Both of them though have frames that are made in Mexico. One painting was purchased in WV and the other in the state of WA.
