Hello, I am a Romanian-American currently living in the U.S. I will soon graduate with a Bachelor's Degree in Finance and Accounting, and am very interested in moving back to Romania, or possibly acquiring a position in one of the Big 4's in virtually any European country, just so I can be closer to my family and friends (I moved to the U.S. when started high school). How difficult would it be for a U.S. citizen to find a job at one of these firms in Europe with extensive studies in America? Do they prefer candidates whom have studied in Europe? Do I possess, the eyes of potential employers, any attributes? I am fluent in both English and Romanian, and understand Spanish and French. If I were to work in Austria, would I need to be able to speak German? Or would it not make a difference since I'd be working in an American firm (Ernst & Young, PWC, etc)? Ideally, I wish to be in Romania, but I'm a little hesitant due to the salaries. Are they really that bad? What would be the best route for me to take to end up in Europe (preferably in Romania) with a decent salary? I know that there are a number of expatriates that make good money in Bucharest, but I'm assuming that they were transfered to the Romanian firms, they did not come out of desire. Any advise would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! -Vanessa

Hi Vanessa, First of all, I don't know whether you have experience or not...but as a beginner (entry-level, fresh graduate) salaries are very poor in Romania in my opinion...i don't think that you could earn more then 1000 euro / month net salary..and this is allready more than avarage... The fact that you will graduate in America i would personally regard it as an asset, as in Romania employers know very well that universities produce massive graduates who don't have almost any practcal skills, as we are fed up with tons of theory and almost no practice at all... I guess that family is important to you, but think very well before doing such a big step...anyway you can try and see the offer here..which totally sucks, and you gan go back to America in case it's not ok... good luck! ps: i would fly now to america if i would have a green card:) • Page 1 (Original Post) •
