Hello, my name is Catherine and I’m a provisional organisational psychologist. As part of my Masters in Organisational Psychology, I am completing a study that explores the experiences and needs a person may face as an expatriate whilst living and working in a foreign country. Having been a member of an expatriate family myself, I have a strong interest in this area of research. I am interested to hear from expatriates located in a variety of locations. The findings of this study will be potentially beneficial to employees (the expatriate) and the organisation in which the expatriate is employed. Potential benefits for the employee can be a more positive experience during their overseas assignment and less stress and discomfort, whilst the organisation may benefit by having reduced failure rates as well as increased employee productivity and job satisfaction. I am looking for people that have been sent by the organisation in which they are employed, to work and live in a foreign country for an extended period of time (a minimum of a 12 month assignment). Participants should be aged between 18 and 65 and currently be on their international assignment. Participants must have been sent by their organisation on this international assignment. Furthermore, participants must have already completed at least 6 months of their international assignment. Participation in this study involves completing an anonymous online questionnaire. The questionnaire includes a series of questions regarding your experiences, social support, personal and work values and demographic details. If you would like to participate, the questionnaire should take around 10 – 25 minutes to complete. The direct link to the questionnaire is If you have any further questions regarding this study, please do not hesitate to contact me, at Catherine.McEniry@ med.monash.edu.au Thank you in advance for taking the time to complete the questionnaire and contributing to the results of this research study.

I find your survey to be extremely long and boring! Besides that I consider it bogus... consider these two questions:1) Driving around in the host country has been straightforward. That question implies that one drives. It cannot be honest answered if one does not drive! One of the brilliant aspects of where I live is that I don't need (or desire) to drive! 2) [People to] Comfort you when you feel homesick. That implies that one feels "homesick". I've not felt homesick from the moment I left my home country... so I couldn't possibly judge whether there are people to "comfort" me for such feelings! Why build such a detailed survey with the presumptions that people will feel homesick and drive?!??! It is also too burried in psycho mumbo jumbo and doesn't get into any real life issues of things that are better (or worse) compared to one's home country. Though I suppose the survey was designed to elicit results that support your predetermined conclusions! • Page 1 (Original Post) •
