POSITION DESCRIPTION SENIOR HEALTH ADVISOR The Senior Health Advisor will have overall responsibility for assuring that health programming empowers primary school children and parents to improve knowledge, attitudes, skills and norms related to key practices and to increase the utilization of preventive, promotive and curative health and nutrition services. This position is based in Abeyei, South Sudan and will report to the Project Director of the HEAR Sudan project. Major Duties and Responsibilities: Manage all aspects of the health component of the HEAR project; Work with HEAR staff, USAID, and other stakeholders with identification and selection of appropriate health and nutrition interventions, to be implemented in primary schools; Develop school-based health service package and work with teachers to implement package; Liaise with primary health care units (PHCU) and primary health care centers (PHCC) to support interventions in primary schools; Develop training for teachers and parents that incorporates health into academic subjects in conjunction with teacher in-service training; Recruit and train health workers to work with schools and communities; Conduct field visits to monitor program progress; Distribute awareness raising messages in coordination with the Health Coordinators; Contribute to and collaborate on reports for USAID; Collaborating with the Monitoring and Evaluation staff to track and evaluate program results; Collaborate with Sudan Health Transformation Project regarding technical assistance. Qualifications: The Senior Health Advisor would ideally hold a degree in health and/or a social science with a minimum of 10 years related public health education experience in program, technical and training support, or an equivalent combination of education and experience; Experience providing technical assistance in health and/or nutrition to a range of partners, including NGOs and CBOs, from the national through local levels; Knowledge of best practices and state-of-the-art in community-based health programming; Proven track record of designing and implementing innovative, results-oriented health behavior change programs; Experience in conducting assessments and demonstrated ability to analyze and use data gathered from communities to design effective behavior change strategies; Willingness to travel and work in rural settings • Page 1 (Original Post) •
