Hi Helene:My family - husband and two children - are planning to relocate to Lausanne within the next year, and I would like to get your perspective thus far on the area. How long have you lived in Switzerland? How is your family adjusting? Biggest challenges? etc. Vanita Glenn-Adams

What is life like for black americans living in geneva
Reply #3 Michael (141.2.121.33) -
Hi, Yes, how is life for African Americans in the Lausanne area? Also, do you have any insight on the schools in the area (primary)? We are preparing to move to the area from Germany and would like our child to continue in a German speaking school. We can't find a German school in Lausanne and there seems to be several in Fribourg and one in Geneva. Also, is there a part of Lausanne that we should avoid looking for a place to live. Thank you.

I am African-American teacher in the Atlanta, Georgia area. I am seriously considering retiring in the Geneva, Switzerland area about two years from now.I lived for three years in Frankfurt, Germany in the early 1990s. I will be interested in finding employment with the United Nations. Any guidance and advice would be appreciated.

This is a message to all African-Americans living in Switzerland. I'm African American, and I'm a teenager who's practically obsessed with Switzerland, but I ask all of you: As an African American, If I were to live in Switzerland and marry as well as have children that are half Swiss-half Black, would the Swiss people scorn at me and the family in general (this is only hypothetical)? Would I experience Racism in Switzerland in general? Are there people who are half-Swiss half Black in Switzerland?

Why are you blacks coming to Europe. Go and fix Africa. You are all pathetic, seriously. All this disgusting banter about wanting a bi-racial child. You are all a bunch of self hating token blacks

Wow Reply # 8 14 - Your exactly the problem, people are asking simple questions, wanting good standard of living without having to worry about dealing with people like you. If you don't have anything productive to offer don't offer anything at all. Plus pick up a map - African AMERICANS are from America. so... why would they go back to Africa... That's a ignorant answer from an ignorant person...

This is to reply # 8 14 and anyone else like you. You asked why are Blacks talking about coming to Europe instead of "fixing Africa?" Why are Europeans in Africa stealing the land and resources? Why are Europeans in Africa telling lies to their European children saying that they too are African? Why are Europeans in Africa pitting tribes against each other? Why are Europeans in Africa forcing Africans to give up their land and forcing them into camps (like they did to the Native Americans)? Every country that you can name Europeans have went into and imposed their stay on the people who originate their. Europeans stole Africa, They Stole America, they tried to steal India, they are still trying to steal Asia. Europeans cause disease and wars and then they lie and blame these things one the people they have stolen from. You are correct though.....Why don't Black people (and others) stand together and protect what is theirs. And this message comes from a "Mixed child" who is proud to have African descent, the descent of all peoples. Know your history the next time you post.

I forgot to add, To all people of African descent, watch the Africa Channel. Where I am in Chicago, Illinios it is channel 133 Comcast. It is supported by former president Jimmy Carter. You will see true depictions of BEAUTIFUL Mother Africa. Africa is not what the media wants you to believe. They show you these picture to scare you away. Google Africa pictures go to Craigslist. Click on Africa and just look at the beautiful apartments in Africa. Go online and visit the website for " The Africa Channel". You will be proud of from where our come!I Love You My Beautiful Black People.

To Reply #10 Proud, your history is very selective. Black Africans moved southward and stole the land of other groups, particularly Bushman, Hottentots, etc., who were different ethnic groups. They chased these people into the deserts and mountains. We know about them because they left paintings showing Blacks (they painted them as black in color) killing them and stealing their land. Visit the whole of southern Africa and you will see this. Black Africans (Negroid people) originate in the Great Lakes area. They migrated out when their population exploded. Not sure how Europeans stole Africa. If you visit South Africa you will see it is full of asylum seekers and illegals from the rest of Africa fleeing to the employment white people give them. Their own black brothers in South Africa kill them, so they flee to the protection of whites in churches, etc. Europe is full of Africans who flee Africa to escape the persecution their own people inflict on them, killers from other tribes, etc. Europeans did expand into other areas, but so did Negroid people from the central part of Africa, Arabs into the rest of the Middle East and North Africa, etc. Slavery continues in Africa to this very day. And if you complain about Europeans in Africa, why shouldn't Europeans complain about Africans in Europe? Europeans have legitimate concerns about the high crime rates and drugs they bring with them.

Guys, Life is what you make of it! I lived in Zurich and YES it`s hard your first couple of months here, so as with any other country you will travel to. People only have as much power as you give them over you. Learn the Language, there`s no other way around it! I am African American and have been living here for the past 2 years in Zurich, I have to say, The Swiss are private people, but when they become friends with you they ARE friends and family to you. There will always be racist in this world, and you can`t fight all of them, but you can kill them with kindness. Learn the language, teach your kids the language before moving here • Page 1 (Original Post) •
