Looking to purchase a house in Taiwan Taichung or not to far from that area. I cannot locate any houses for sale on the internet that are in English. Everything I have located is either disabled or years old. Can anyone assist my contact my email address? This is the best method to contact me, I do not visit this message board so I would most likely miss your reply. Thank you!

We are in the process of looking for a house and I asked my wife (who is Taiwanese) If I could go on the mortgage with her. The word is that foreigners can be named on a mortgage although it makes it more difficult to get one if you want this. I suppose this means that it is very difficult to get one if you are by yourself. The big deal is that when you come to sell your property you will be charged 20% tax because you are not Taiwanese.

The good thing about buying in Taiwan is that the mortgage rates are very cheap compared with the west about 2-3% per year. The best way to get a mortgage is to prepare a deposit of between 10 & 20% then go see a building company or estate agent who will help you sort one out. As far as I can tell at the moment Taiwan doesn't really have mortgage brokers and banks do not sell directly (but this may need more investigation).

Hope this helps somebody.

Aaron
