Hello Jennie, My situation is different. My husband and I are Americans entertaining the idea of moving to Tunis. I am very leary of the move not knowing how many English speaking woman I could socialize with. We speak manily English/some Spanish. How long have you lived there now? I am grasping for advice and guidance, and any of this would be very much appreciated. Thanks! Tammy

My finace is from Sousse, I am a croatian gril, living in macedonia. He wanted to move here, but my government seems to thing he is part of the taliban for no aparent reason. Now we are contemplating moving to Tunisia. I am an MBA, doing my PhD in Germany at the moment, teaching at university and working for an oil firm. I dont speak french or arabic, i do speak 6 languages which probably won't help me (dutch, german, eng and all the balkan ones) We really love each other and we want to make this work, we have been apart for 10 months and it is getting harder and harder to live without one another. What do you think about me moving there?

I lived in Tunisia for 4 years but had enough money to rent 8 apartments and lease them to tourists. I met and married my Tunisian husband from Sousse. After our marriage we came back to England and he changed. He didnt want to work became violent and abusive. He thought the money and life would be easy here not that he would have to work hard like everyone else. He was here five years, the worst of my life. I ended up having stitches in my face and arm where he threw a glass at me.I made him leave and phoned the police. He thought he could get his visa without me and didnt contact myself or my daughter for 7 months. I had to move as I was scared of him. the british government deported him back to Tunisia. I also have a friend who is also married to a Tunisian and she is having the same problems. They all say they are different from the rest, and then they change. I just want you to be very careful. I know you wont listen as I wouldnt when I was told about things like this. I am not telling you these things to be nasty just think about what you are doing. It is not the same living there as going on holiday, unless you have lots of money. It will be hard to find a job unless you speak the language. Let me know how you get on. I was with mine for 8 years, he was ok until we moved here. Good luck anyway. you will need it.

Hi all, I am also planning to move to Tunisia, with my wife, in a couple of months ahead. If we are lucky, we will stay there for 3 years and also would like to meet expats there. Very interesting all your comments, but any of you have already gone around searching for housing in Tunis-Carthage area ..?
