Does anyone know if it's possible for Brits to get residence permits to live in Tunisia? If so, where can I get details?

I teach English as a Foreign Language, so could aply for a work permit if that's easier.

Any suggestions?

Hi, just wondering how hard it would be to open a business in Tunisia and becoming a resident.

I am South African

Tunisia has an open door policy and there are no discrimination against foreigners coming and working in tunisia. however the law are quite strict and applications take time to be processed. to work in tunisia you will need to apply for a work/residence visa and you can do so once you are in the country. if your job is in a filed that is much sought after, mostly teaching, the university will sponsor your application.

things are much easier if you want to set up business in the country but again some businessmen that i have frequented lament on the still yet complicated and lenghy procedures . the government has set up a dedicated organs called API, which i believe has an office in London. DFI is much sought after as long as you have the hard cash and the good idea.

If your business is import-export related , you could benifit from huge exemption on income tax under the 1972 law , which exempts textile companies from local taxes if 100% of its product is for export (or near that figure)

I would advise you set up a meeting with tunsian embassy staff in your country for further info.

today most of this information is readily available online , please check this site

God luck

Hi I am moving to Monastir in January next year, initially for 6 months. Looking for information on schools for my 14 year old son and if anyone has any advice on how to make the move easier for him.

Reply #6 Suzi from Skanes Monastir (Contact Member) -

Hi Janine,

you would do well to get your son learning basic french now and get him on a course once in Monastir to learn Arabi.he will find it hard but very rewarding I have two younger kids here at school and they have done and continue to do very well. The best way for your son to get into education would be in private French school, which is not expensive and depending on the school can be very good and if you have a home helper for him to assist in his homework and such for 1 hour each evening after school this will be even better.if I can be of any help please do not hesitate to ask.

You become a resident of Tunisia by getting what is called a Carte de Séjour. To get this, you must apply at the police station of the sector in which you reside for authorization (a Carte de Séjour) to stay. You will need to give them:

-Your passport

-4 identity photos

-Documentary evidence of accommodation (your rent agreement; the title deed to your own property; or a written statement from a Tunisian or local family who is putting you up)

-Evidence of your means of support (your employment contract if it mentions salary; a bank’s statement of your account and/or transfer payments made to you in Tunisia; or your husband’s statement or financial support for you as his wife - a fiance cannot write a statement of support for you)

-You will need to tell them why you wish to remain in Tunisia (things they look for are: a contract of employment properly endorsed by the local authorities; a contract with a foreign employer and his company’s legal status in Tunisia; and/or a contract of marriage with a Tunisian national or with a person who is resident here)

-You must pay a 10TND fee

Each sector has their own special rules (they may need a few extra things, or need a few less) so you really should check with them to get the full picture of what they want.

If you are approved, you can pick your card up in about 3 months. This time also varies from sector to sector depending on how busy they are.

This card does expire every year (mine expires every two). Before it expires, all you have to do is take all your documents and renew it, or leave country before it expires. You can also cancel this card at any time. If you get this card, you and your whole family will have to pay the stamp fee in your passports every time you exit the country.

Here is a link that talks about how to do this, but they make it sound more complicated that it is:

http://www.sicad.gov.tn/ sicadnspc/fr/script/ conditions.asp? detail=8&pcodm= 2&pcodorg=3& pcoddomaine=9

(you have to take the spaces out - I only put them in because I was not able to post with the link in tact)

If I can be of any more help or assistance, please feel free to contact me anytime.
