Visa/Consulate Interview

Talk for and about Expats. Living in this Tunisia? Let others know about it. Want to live here? Ask questions! Expat Interviews

Bigbrother2004 (62.129.121.32) -

Does anyone have any experiences, advice, tips on the visa application/consulate interview. After my marriage in Tunisia this Autumn, I will be applying for a visa for my husband to live and work in London. Has anyone been through the same process? Please reply via this site or at my email address.

Thank you.

Thanks.

Hmmm, I've been through that process - a few years ago now though. Let me tell you, they will speak to you like you're an idiot, they will tell you things to try and put you off going ahead with the marriage etc, but at the end of the day, the law is on your side....be straightforward and firm

Thank you for your reply - I just picked up your post today.

I would be grateful if you could email me at Bigbrother2004@hotmail.co.uk and share your story with me.

I'm flying out to Tunis in December for my marriage and then sometime after we will be visiting the consulate to make an appointment. I'm hoping the visa will be successful.

I'd love to hear your story on the matter.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Thank you in anticipation.

Kind regards.

hi we are now appealing against the decision. If any one could offer any advice and knows how long the visa process actually takes I would be extremely grateful. I will be returning to England alone which is extremely traumatic for everybody, but unfortunately I have no other option.

Monastir-To marry in Tunisia the rules are different for females than male. If your fiancee can go to Denmark, they are like Las Vegas. You can get married in a day. There is a site for weddings and it is in German too.

I was wondering as well how long it will take for my Tunsian fiance to get a visa to America? I will stay with him 2 months after our marriage. Will he be able come with me? Goodluck to everyone.

I to am looking into my Tunisian boyfriend being able to come to the UK with me.

The frustrating thing is we don't even want to live in the UK but he wants to be able to work while he is in the UK (while I tie my ends up in this country) and as it stands he is not allowed to do that! Educated, articulate and willing to work but refused entry before we even start. We have considered getting married just to assist the process but I am not sure if this would work.

If anybody could give me some advice i would appreciate it.

Good luck to all you

Treacle

hi,

Hi im a tunisian, im living in the UK, and i do have some informations about how to get married with a tunisian and how long it takes to have a visa for him.

this is the web site of the british embassy in Tunisia and it explaines every thing:

www.britishembassy.gov.uk/servlet/Front?pagename=OpenMarket/Xcelerate/ShowPage&c=Page&cid=1022256797639

All what you have to do when you will be invited to the embassy is to let them know that you are interested in that man and its the man that you want to share your life with any where in the world.

They will try to tell you a lot of fake stories about how many cases failed and you should take more time to decide.

Be carreful when you are older than your fiancé,they will tell you that he will use you and marriage for him is just a adventure to get the brtish passport and after that he will leave you.

And when your visa is refused dont appeal against the decision , take some time and renew your demand.

Apealing is the worst thing to do in this kind of situations.

good luck for every one im here to help for any kind of information.

My fiance is Tunisian and I want to move to Tunisia for a few years before we think about moving to Canada. Is it difficult for a Canadian to get a Tunisian passport and work in Tunisia? And how long does the process take once we are married for him to get a citizenship/green card to Canada or the USA??

Reply #14 Denise from Lancs -

HI, WE APPLIED FOR A FIANCE VISA IN JANUARY OF THIS YEAR AND REFUSED ON THE SAME DAY, WE APPEALED AGAINST THE DECISION WITH THE HELP OF A SOLICITOR AT THE LOCAL LAW SOCIETY. WE GOT MARRIED ON THE 3 MARCH, WE WERE ADVISED TO APPLY FOR A MARRIAGE VISA WHILE WE WERE WAITING FOR THE APPEAL TO GO THROUGH. WE DID AND AGAIN WERE REFUSED ON THE SAME DAY. I ATTENDED THE APPEAL HEARING 19 SEPT AND HAVE JUST FOUND OUT THE JUDGE SAID YES TO THE APPEAL! I HAVE BEEN TOLD IT WILL TAKE 6 TO 8 WEEKS FOR MY HUSBAND TO GET HIS VISA, SO HE WILL BE HERE FOR CHRISTMAS.

EVERY PERSONS SITUATION IS DIFFERENT AS IS THE VISA INTERVIEW PROCESS. YOU DO WHAT IS BEST FOR YOU. THE ONLY QUICK WAY TO GET YOUR VISA IS IF YOU HAVE BEEN MARRIED FOR SOME TIME AND HAVE BEEN LIVING TOGETHER IN TUNISIA AND YOU HAVE PROPERTY AND MONEY IN THE UK. DONT LOOSE HEART AND GOOD LUCK X X

Hi, I am a tunisian girl married to an italian guy since 2001 and we lived in Italy for a year, then my husband decided to move to the Uk while I returned to Tunisia to renew my passport and ask for a visa for the UK as it is not shengen, I added his name to my passport as a spouse, and when I had to ask for the british visa I needed his contract of work showing his salary and proving that he can support me in the UK without the need of benefits, as well as an address where he is living and where I will be able to stay, I got a visa for a year, and then before that visa expired I asked for a new one in the immigration office in UK which was for 5 years.

so I think that girls are more likely to get the visa than the guys,

anyway good luck to everyone

Reply #17 Rachel Watson (86.136.210.214) -

I was married to a Tunisian for 3 years (I got married in Tunisia) and I went through the visa application on my husbands behalf. It was refused at first (which is normal)and I appealed against the decision. It went to the appeal court and the decision was reversed and he was granted a visa - but it was a long process, with lots of paperwork! I still have the paperwork and lists of contacts and information that you should provide, so if I can be of any help - please feel free to contact me.

I am now divorced from my husband - I had to get divorced in Tunisia, I have quite a good knowledge of the legal system in Tunisia, so if I can be of any help regarding divorce/ legal problems - feel free to contact me!

Good luck to all!

Hi there

I have a Tunisian boyfriend who I will be visiting in Tunisia in 5 weeks time.

At the moment I am still married but going through divorce and tying everything up here in England at the moment.

Can anyone give me advise on how long it takes to obtain a visa on behalf of my tunisian boyfriend to come to England and whether this is still possible to do without my divorce being complete.

I will shortly own my own house and wondered whether through being able to prove that I can support him (I am employed) I could apply for a holiday visa etc until my divorce is complete?

Can anyone please give any advise?

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am interested in inviting my Tunisian boyfriend to the UK, from Tunisia, for next Summer, so that we can spend time together and so he can work.

I am a student, but pay my own rent in a privately owned house, I also have a part time job (if this affects anything).

I was wondering if you could give me any information about how to obtain a visa and whether or not there are any costs involved, and if so, the figures involved.

Thank you

Emily Merrick

Hi my friend is currently getting divorced to a tunisian man after a very violent and abusive marriage. She is going to tunisia next wk to sort it out and has property out there that she bought whilst still married. Does anybody know what the law is in regards to property of british citizens over there?

Hello Rachel, I am in a similar position as you regarding marriage. My husband went to tunisia on 2/12/07 for a holiday for two weeks but did not return to the UK.

He was here for only 5 months but we had a lot of problems regarding his drinking and smoking - I am a teetotaler and could not stand it!

Apart from this he said my family does not like him. This is because they know that I had to pay for his habits and about the arguments. It has only been a month since he deserted but I feel I should do something as to regards a divorce.

I do not want to go to Tunisia for a divorce - it will be too traumatic for me. Is there any other way? angelicac@hotmail.co.uk

hello everyone, i have already posted a message regarding my problem and i am disapointed that there have been no replys but apparently i logged in incorrectly.

it is regarding divorcing my tunisian husband who has returned

to tunisia. i understand from Rachel Watson's message that i would have to go to tunisia to divorce as we were married in tunisia.

i would find this experience very traumatic - please refer to previous message that i posted - and would like to know if i can obtain a divorce from the uk as my husband has effectively deserted me.

i would be grateful for any good advice - many thanks!

Hi, I have recently got engaged in Tunis and it was great. All of his family arranged everything and we had a big party where he gave me my ring, etc.

Considering Visas don't just get married in Tunis to help with getting a visa because it doesn't work like that. If you're really in love with your boyfriend then just tell the embassy the truth and you should be okay.

Nat

I contacted British Embassy in Tunis, apparently we can divorce from the uk for our own purposes but i think the tunisians have to do it from their side also. Personally i shall not be going to tunisia so I presume a oommunication will arrive in english i hope that i shall have to sign to agree with the divorce. I am going to the CAB to get more advice shortly. Hope this info will be of help jason.

HELLO EVERYONE, I FEEL SAD FOR ALL THE ENGLISH GIRLS, BEING MANIPULATED AND DELUDED INTO BRINGING THEIR TUNISIAN BOYFRIENDS, TO ENGLAND.I AM A TUNISIAN LADY, WHO LIVES IN LONDON.I KNOW TOO WELL TO ADVISE YOU AGAINST, SCREWING UP YOUR LIVES BY, BELIEVING THE PACK OF LIES AND CLICHED STORIES THAT ALWAYS, END IN DISASTER.TAKE IT FROM ME, ALL THE MEN YOU MET THERE, ARE ONLY AND SOLELY AFTER THE VISA AND THE NATURALISATION.MOST WOULD VANISH AS SOON AS THEY GET THEIR INDEFINITE LEAVE TO REMAIN, SOME WOULD REMAIN IF THE MONEY IS GOOD.AFTER, SORTING THEIR LIVES THEY ALWAYS GO BACK TO MARRY A TUNISIAN GIRL.SO PLEASE, BE CAREFUL, YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT TROUBLE YOU ARE BUYING FOR YOURSELVES.

NB:MY HUSBAND IS ARAB LIKE ME, , WE'VE BEEN MARRIED FOR 8 YEARS AND HAVE A 6Y OLD CHILD.

I did this.. I married a Tunisian he has been nothing but trouble... and now I'm having trouble divorcing him. And believe me I had heard all these stories before and he still convinced me at first that he was not using me for a visa. They tell you so many lies and u will believe it all. They will be so charming, so believable but I am telling u U ARE BEING USED and MANIPULATED!!!!! I married him and he deserted me straight after. You will think u are different and that it wont happen to u. It will... unless the money is so great that it makes him want to stay. You cant trust in these men they are not real men they just want money, sex and a visa from u and they will go back and marry a girl in their own country, that is if they haven't already got someone back there waiting for them.

Reply #41 ebonyivory from UK - Sat Jun 14 16:39:14 2008

Not all relationships/marriages start and end up the same. There are plenty of relationships and marriages that are genuine, and continue to be genuine for years. Some start out shakey but with time and commitment they do florish. Some men go into the relationship with just a visa in mind, and they will find that they are on a rocky road and karma is just around the corner to wait for them. if you need to speak to other women in your situation go to:

tunisia.com

or those who are planning to live in tunisia, look at this expat site:

nomarmiteintunisia.co.uk

GOOD LUCK TO YOU ALL
