To those looking to live/work in Turkey. If your up to repping work which can be a good way of guaranteed earnings you are best applying to British companies such as MyTravel, Lunn Poly etc the year before. They arrange work visas etc for you so takes the hassle out. For people looking for manual labour etc, this is harder. You will not get a work visa if the government feel you are offering skills for a job that can be filled by a Turk. i.e if in building trade would struggle to get legitamate work as so many turkish builders looking for work. To live/work in Turkey you will need to apply for a tax number first (need this to open bank account, make large purchases etc). Relatively easy to do but helps if you know a Turk who can assist you in tax office etc with translations.
