Can you direct me to any expat groups or expat web sites for Uruguay? How many Americans are living in Uruguay?

Hello,We have a new forum website for Americans retiring abroad, including early retirees still doing some kind of work. We are interested in hearing more information about Uruguay. There isn't yet a Uruguay expat forum on the site, but would be glad to add it if there is sufficient interest. Jeffrey www.RetireAway.com

We have tried very hard to make UruguayLiving dot com a resource on which people can rely. We now have 47 main entries, and almost 250 comment. We had added important links to outher resources as well, and I answer daily 5-10 personal emails requesting information. We have tried to keep everything a bit humorous as well.I hope you will visit.

We plan to retire soon in Uruguay. We purchased real estate to vacation at for ourselves and to rent out until we move there permanently. We are looking for expats there in the area of Punta Del Este. We can help answer some questions about our experience there for anyone who wants to buy property. We want to meet expats who live there.

Hello all, I was a US Marine Corps guard at the American Embassy in Montevie from '86 to '87. I married a Uruguaya and brought her back to the states in '88. We divorced after four years. I think if we had lived in Uruguay after our marriage then we would probably still be together. There was just no way for me to make a living at that time. I now have a pretty good sure monthly income coming in and am thinking of coming back to live. I am thinking of Piriapolis or the Punta area. Somewhere on the water away from the chocolate milk water of the Rio de Plata. Are there any English speaking people on this forum that can give me a little advise. I do speak Spanish fluently, but would like to hear from people from English speaking countries that have expatriated to Uruguay.

Hey everyone --I was a producer/writer/director with NFL Films for 29 years and am in semi-retirement, finally able to devote to my full attention to screenwriting. One screenplay that I'm working on involves a 25-year old kid who vows to leave the country if George W. Bush is re-elected, then spends four years in a foreign country. (This foreign country is Uruguay.) His adjustment to a new land is a large part of the story and I'm looking for people willing to share their experiences as Americans adjusting to life in unfamiliar territory. I was born in Sweden and have been to Europe many times, spent two-and-a-half years in the Far East with the US Air Force, and lived and worked in the US Virgin Islands. This provides me with a little background as a stranger in a strange land, but nowhere near what many of you have experienced with your commitment to a new and different country. From the novelty to the culture shock of the move to your assimilation and acclimation into Uruguayan life, I would welcome and value your thoughts and memories. (Most awkward times, funniest moments, friendships - anything that comes to mind.) And if this ever becomes a movie, you've got a center row seat at the premiere. Many thanks in advance for anything you can contribute Dave Petrelius Haddonfield, NJ

All, I've seen several posts here from other expats looking for contacts and/or info in Uruguay. I'm from the US and have been living off and on in Uruguay for 10 years now. If you have any questions or just want to chat, please feel free to contact me by email and I'll then provide my phone info. Thanks!! -Jeff • Page 1 (Original Post) •
