Where can I find good resources on sublets in Montevideo? I can only find one site that lists 2 sublets and wants ten bucks before I contect the owners.

Hi Christine, I don't think subletting is very normal here in Uruguay. Unlike in the US and Europe where students and young professionals tend to seek each other out to share living spaces that is just not done here. Young people who need to move to the city for work or college tend to stay with friends or family (or accommodation organised for them by those people with contacts). I have found that Uruguayan's tend to live at home until they're married or at least coupled (because wages just aren't high enough to pay rent alone). I assume most people when they get to THAT stage don't necessarily want a stranger living with them. The only sublet situations I have heard of is foreigners...so you're best to seek out fellow foreigners to share a place rather than Uruguayans looking to sublet - in my opinion anyway. A good place to check out apartments and get an idea of cost is Buscando Casa. • Page 1 (Original Post) •
