Hello to everyone! I recently accepted a job offer in Hanoi and I'm quite excited about it. However, I recently found out while doing internet research that foreigner/expat salaries are subjected to Vn income taxes? Is this true? I have worked offshore before and I know for a fact that salaries obtained from working offshore are tax-exempt. I just need some enlightenment...

I hope to get some answers here from other expats. Thanks very much and I will appreciate any response from anyone about this matter very much!

Yes Corinne, you pay tax here no matter who you are, unless you got paid under the table. Offshore tax exemption applies for foreign companies of selected countries.

Of interest to many expats is whether they are obligated to pay Vietnam income taxes on income they earn from OUTSIDE Vietnam, ie: pensions from their home country, or business income from their home country.
