1. Visa. My wife (who was born and raised in Vietnam) and I want to retire in Vietnam for a few years. Is the 6 month VISA a maximum? Can we get the Visa extended while staying in Vietnam and not be forced to leave the country to extend it? Or do we have to be doing business in Vietnam for this?2. Banking in Vietnam. Can we trust HSBC or Citicorp in Vietnam? Can any of you tell me your experiences with Vietnamese banking. We will be living off a pension and we'll need to find a way to access our money from an American bank. Anyone have experiences with this? How do retirees do banking in Vietnam? Anyone know. Thanks. You can also respond to my email above if you are willing.

Michael, I have just found this website, so you might already have your answers. Since your wife is Vietnamese you can apply for a 5 year Visa multiple entry/exit. My wife (born and raised in Viet-Nam as well) and I bank with HSBC in HANOI. We opened a Dollar Account and have the capability to wire-transfer funds to this account. It was a painless process and HSBC was very helpful. Hopefully this has helped a little. If you have any questions you can email direct and I will provide you with what I know. v/r Barry • Page 1 (Original Post) •
