Hi, Steve: I used to hang around with Dove for 20 years. Did you know he died last year? I was living in New Orleans until Katrina blew me away. Now staying in Micanopy (Florida) temporarily. I'm not sure if I remember you or not. Do you remember me? Do you remember Phyllis Branch? Dove's (whitey) girlfriend? What about Sootoo? Or Clydee Archer? I haven't been to St. Croix in five years. When were you last there?Kit

Jan 16, '09Gotta love google... I did a search for Kit Cawley artist and up popped this page. Kit, I hope you see this or someone who knows you will pass it on. In the mid-80s I lived in the islands. One day I purchased about 8 of your small painted pictures of island women from a shop along the waterfront. I had them matted and framed and gave as gifts to friends and family, keeping one for myself. I gave one to my sister, who died about 5 years ago. When I cleaned out her house I found the framed picture I gave her and took it with me. It's the only remembrance I have of her. I thought the paper looked kind of brownish and thought it was from nictotine since she smoked like crazy. But recently I realized it got brown from being mounted on and around matt stock that's not acid-free. For some reason I had that one framed at a different place than the other pictures, which are just fine. I had them both hanging next to each other but the paper color difference is unsettling and really bothering me! Anyway... I've been researching to see if there's a way of cleaning the paper, and am seeing an art conservator who works on paper next week. But I don't hold out much luck of this being viable or affordable. I would really love to find out if you still draw these pictures or have any more or know where I can get another one. It's small, about 4 x 4.5", each one was different and stylized images. I've always loved these and hope I can either salvage this one or get another. My name is Mary and you can email me at: mwoods_2@yahoo.com Thanks so much!! • Page 1 (Original Post) •
